Harvey Lewis discusses his taper routine, training philosophy, and plans for the 2026 Badwater ultramarathon during a day of interviews at his Ohio home.
Harvey Lewis brings a mindset to running few others can match. He’s happy and vicious all at once. He laughs while he tells you he’s not normal. And he doesn’t stutter when he says he’s going to win.
He believes at 50 years old he will still beat you no matter how old you are.
And he might be right.
I spent the day in Ohio with Harvey Lewis at his home doing his taper routine in advance of the 2026 running of Badwater.
I’m fascinated by Harvey Lewis not only by his ability to perform at the highest level as he ages, it’s that his ceiling might still be ahead of him. Or maybe it’s that he does it with a smile.
There’s joy in his eyes. Hospitality. Encouragement. And a cutthroat competitor.
