Dean Karnazes is a Dirtbag?

In Born to Run, Chris McDougal wrote about how running booms by orders of magnitude in times of crisis [from 9/11 to the financial crisis]. Each era has its cast of notable characters and Dean Karnazes stands shoulder to shoulder with giants from the financial crisis boom from 2008 to 2012.

I came to running in the in Born to Run, Scott Jurek, Dean Karnazes era. I couldn’t read and listen to enough books by these great authors all inspiring me to run further and push myself for some inexplicable yet undeniable joy on the other side.

Dean and I sat down for an interview in Amsterdam at the International Running Expo to talk about his iconic but-far-from-over running career. You’ll find in my conversations with these iconic personalities that I tend to talk to them like I would if we were simply having coffee.

I admire Dean greatly and respect him immensely for not only his feats of endurance but his overall influence for good. That’s why he’s a perfect fit for our 4 Turns series about people, like the Winter Solstice, are bringing more light into the world.
