The New Era of Borderlands Trail Running

Borderlands Trail Running is entering into a new era focused on serving the trail running community.  We think that elevating our media efforts, mobile app technology, trail races, and coverage of run culture in general in our own unique voice serves a large swath of the community hungry for an alternative voice.

We started in spring 2022 with the mission to be the heart of trail running.  Plenty of trail running businesses are nailing performance-first media.  We so heart-first.  The stuff that inspires us, makes us think, challenges us to change for the better.

The Former Era

In our first three years you witnessed us throw a massive amount of shit against the wall to see what sticks.  Often you were surprised by the new topics and voices on the platform giving you whiplash at times – just when you thought it was safe to listen to every podcast episode, we started talking about something new that you didn’t expect.

While the last thing we wanted to do was confuse you, this effort in casting a wide net was intentional to see what works and what doesn’t.

We found that a lot of our content and creators worked well on their own, but packaged up into one feed was a little confusing.

The New Era

The Heart of Trail Running‘ has its place in every facet of trail running (and running in general) but we are now separating content in a way that allows you to directly engage with the content and personalities that you want the most.

Races

Open Range Races put on separate races in the foothills of Salt Lake City with the aim of showing off the most beautiful urban-meets-trail trail system in America.

Salt Lake Foothills Trail Races

10k | half marathon | 50k | 50 miler

We start at the iconic BST trailhead near Hogle Zoo where runners work their way via huge gain and loss through the foothills.  Our flagship race, the 50k, is a sneaky 6,700′ (2,000 m) of gain.

The 50k Fiasco

Coming fall 2026.  It’s exactly as it sounds.  A fiasco.
